Passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw, MI; age 68 years. Fred was born on January 21, 1947 in Saginaw, MI to the late Frederick W. and Lorine (Geyer) Zehnder. He was married to Wendy Waack on August 6, 1971, she survives him. Fred founded the Family Eye Care Center in Frankenmuth and served the community as an Optometrist for 40 years, retiring in 2013. Fred was very involved in the community, his profession, and a lifelong member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church where he served in many capacities. Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed spending time at his cabin cheering on the Michigan State Spartans with family and friends.
Surviving besides his wife Wendy are: 2 sons, Dr. Chris (Alisa) Zehnder, Michael (Elyse) Zehnder; 10 grandchildren, Colten, Kylee, Blake, Bryce, Adelyn, Savanah, Preston, Grace, Stella, Tessa; 1 brother and 1 sister, Dr. David (Mary) Zehnder and Mary (Bill) Heyse; sister-in-law, Sandy (Dr. Frank) Piesko; many nieces and nephews, and special canine companion, Lahlah.
Memorial services will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, Frankenmuth, MI. Fred’s family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Lutheran Church or the Saginaw City Rescue Mission.
