GUNNELS, Dean A. – of Birch Run, age 63, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 4 PM Monday, December 23, 2013 at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run. Pastor Jim Chinery officiating. Burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery with military honors on Tuesday at 10:30 AM. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 7-9 PM where a memorial will be held at 7:30 PM by the Birch Run VFW Post #7542, and Monday from 11 AM until time of services at 4 PM. Contributions may be made to the family.
Dean was born March 20, 1950 to John and Lucille (Wilson) Gunnels. He was a resident of Birch Run his entire life. Dean served in the US Army in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. He married Gail Lincoln on April 18, 1970. Mr. Gunnels retired from GM Truck and Bus in 2000. He was a member of the Birch Run VFW Post #7542, Double Deuce Cruisers and the UAW Local #659. He enjoyed hunting, watching his grandkids play sports and his Rat Rod.
Surviving are: wife, Gail; daughters, Carrie (Kevin) Lichon of Au Gres, Shelly (Jeff) Haller of Birch Run, Laurie Gunnels of Birch Run; 3 grandchildren, Ashtin and Carlee Haller, Rane Metevia II; mother, Lucille Gunnels of Millington; brothers, John (Sharon) Gunnels of Clio, Gary (Cindy) Gunnels of Mt. Morris, Carl Gunnels of Millington; mother-in-law, Pat Lincoln of Birch Run; brother-in-law, Kevin (Deb) Lincoln of Birch Run; special friends, Ken Fox, David Card, Greg and Denise Brown; nieces and nephews.
