Fate, Robert L. of Flushing, died Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at his home. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Gordon Reigle will officiate. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, 12-8 p.m. Tuesday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church until the time of the Mass. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice.
Robert was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the son of William and Lucille (Touhy) Fate. He married Patricia Streng in Beal City, Michigan on June 20, 1953 and they celebrated 62 years of marriage together before she passed away on February 28, 2016. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, retiring as Command Sgt. Major in 1969, having served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was then employed by the City of Flushing for 15 years, retiring in 1985. Bob later worked at Rossell Funeral Home for over 10 years. He was a faithful member of St. Robert Catholic Church. Bob was also a member of the National Association of Uniform Service Personnel, Flushing V.F.W. Post 5666 and the Thursday night trio bowling league at Colonial Lanes. Together with his wife, they traveled to Australia, New Zealand, throughout Europe and America and especially enjoyed going on many cruises.
Bob is survived by his seven children, Barb (Dave) Woods, Joe (Jan) Fate, Karen (Dave) White, Michael Fate, Jeanette (David) Morrish, Teresa (Steven) Fedosh, Bari (Chris) Pfeiffer; 16 grandchildren, Autumn Fate, Erin (Chris) Beam , Lindsay (Jason) Barr, Nicole (Anthony) Piazza, Matthew (Kelly) Morrish, JeanMarie (Cary) Brainard, Ryan (Alli) White, Seth White, Jennifer Morrish, Michael John Fate, Danica, Drew, and Jack Fedosh, Lila and Calvin Pfeiffer; ten great-grandchildren, Hailey, Morgan, Ashlyn, Taylor, Gianna, Gavin, Ava, Tristan, Thomas and Evelyn; sister, Gladys Hall; brother-in-law, Alex Kanareff; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia; granddaughter, Angie Marie Fate; and sisters, Lila Jean Kanareff and Pat VanAuker.
