Louise was born on October 21, 1945 in Flint, MI to Michael and Genevieve (Novak) Dolak. She graduated from St. Agnes High School in 1963, and attended Mott Community College while working for Prudential Insurance. On April 27, 1968, she married the love of her life and best friend, Rudolph Allen Haapala. Together they raised a son, Eric, and a daughter, Karen. When the children were older, Louise began a career as a paraprofessional, where she worked in various Flushing elementary schools for over 20 years until her retirement in 2003. Louise also spent many of her summers exercising her green thumb at The Posie Patch in Flint, MI.
Louise was very devoted to her faith and was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Flint. She was in charge of St. Vincent De Paul, was a member of the Alter Society, and helped organize numerous fundraisers for the church and local community organizations. Louise also loved shopping, gardening, doing puzzles, going to the casino and being a “snowbird,” but above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandsons. Louise will be greatly missed by all who knew her for her wry sense of humor, immense care for others, and ability to give sage advice.
She is survived by her husband, Rudy; her two children, Eric and Karen (Jeff) Daley; her beloved grandchildren, Griffen, Ethan, Jackson and Drew; special cousins Gloria (Sampson) Vun Cannon and Joan (Sampson) Lesinski, and several cousins and close friends. Louise was preceded in death by her mother, Genevieve, and special aunt, Sophie Matsco.
