Dwight Weir, 92, passed away April 22, 2018 at his residence. Dwight was born December 22, 1925 to John & Evelyn (Stroup) Weir & had lived in Lapeer his whole life.
Dwight graduated from Lapeer High School in 1944. His sister, Shirley picked up his diploma, as he had already enlisted in the Navy. While stationed in Maryland he met & married Mary Moore. They returned to Lapeer where he farmed & hauled can milk with his father. He eventually switched to bulk milk & picked up milk at over 100 farms delivering milk to many dairies. During this time he also started Weir's Water, hauling water for swimming pools. Dwight & Mary built their home on land purchased in 1904 by his grandfather where Dwight still lived. Dwight sold his milk business in 1974 &his water business in 1985 to care for Mary until her death. In 1987 Dwight married Frieda Oliver. They divorced in 2013. In retirement he started farming again, this time with flowers that are enjoyed by many. He was proud of the land & in 2015 the Weir family received a Centennial Farm recognition from the Historical Society of Michigan & in 2016 received recognition in the Lapeer Press; Best of the Best for Favorite Historical sites. Dwight was a member of the Free Methodist Church & the American Legion. Dwight wintered in Weslaco, TX for many years. He loved his flower garden & weekly card games at Linda's home with the family. He bowled up to the time of his death.
Dwight is survived by his children, Douglas &Connie Weir, Linda & Don Pardee. Grandchildren Jeff & Kelly Weir, Jason & Jill Weir, Lynette Pardee, Denise & Ed Heffel. Great grandchildren Kyle, Ryan, Harrison, Carlyn Weir & Anna Heffel. Sister Sandy Diehl, brother in law Ed Balch., many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, sisters Shirley Bader, Eleanor Balch, brother in laws Cal Bader & Elwyn Diehl.
Dwight’s visitation will be 4:00-8:00pm Tuesday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. His funeral will be 11:00am Wednesday April 25, 2018 at Muirs, officiated by Pastor Bruce Lawton. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
