SKAFF, JOHN "JACK" LEE, of Grand Blanc age 86, died Monday, August 3, 2015 at his home surrounded by family. Cremation has taken place. Family will receive visitors for a Memorial Visitation on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 from 11:00AM to 4:00PM and 6:00PM to 9:00PM. The family will also receive visitors on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 from 11:00AM to 2:00PM, with a "Celebration of Life" Service starting at 2PM at the Hill Funeral Home -11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, MI. Jack was born December 6, 1928 in Flint, MI to parents George Jacob and Martha L. (Vandemark) Skaff. He was a 1947 graduate of Flint Central High School. On November 24, 1950 he wed Martha Myers. Jack was a hard worker and a "get it done" type of person. Jack worked at the family carpet and furniture store until 1977 when he left to follow his dream of buying and selling automobiles. Though his true passion was brass-era cars, Jack would buy any car that was a good deal and caught his attention. Jack's favorite quote was "the best buy is a bye - bye," and his warranty on any car he sold was "100,000 miles, 30 years, or the end of the driveway, whichever comes first." He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson John, the “Bright Spot in his Life”, traveling to many antique car-related activities with his family, “wintering” in FL, and spending summers at his family's cottage on Lake Huron. Also, Jack loved collecting and trading anything car-related, going each year to the auto events at Sloan Museum, attending the Old Car Festival at Greenfield Village, and auto-related activities at Hershey, PA and Carlisle, PA. Even after leaving the family business, Jack remained involved in the store for several years afterwards. With Jack's passing ends an era of the first generation of Skaffs born in the United States. Surviving are his daughters Pamela Skaff of Stone Mountain, GA; Sandra Mamish of Grand Blanc, MI; grandson John Mamish of Grand Blanc, MI; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Martha) and his four siblings. The family wishes to express the sincerest thanks to Jack’s wonderful caregivers Carolyn, Angie, and visiting/hospice nurse Chris, many close friends, and Dr. Bouvier. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Buick Gallery in Flint MI, the Pierce-Arrow Museum at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, MI, the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum in Lansing, MI, or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.hillfh.com.
