GRAY, Jim – of Burton, age 72, passed away May 2, 2016 at his residence. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Friday, May 6, 2016 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Rev. Harold K. Polk, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 & 5-8 PM on Wednesday and 12-3 & 5-8 PM Thursday. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Friday. At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Firemen’s Memorial Festival Committee or NHRA D.R.A.W. or International Towing Recovery Hall of Fame Museum, 3315 Broad St., Chattanooga, TN 37408.
Jim was born in Flint, MI on March 8, 1944, son of the late Ellsworth and Jeannette (McClure) Gray. He was a 1962 graduate of Kearsley High School. Jim went on to earn his master’s degree from Western Michigan University. He married Jeanette (Putvin) Sutherby on August 3, 2002. Jim owned and operated Gray’s Towing, which has been in the family since 1945. He helped set up the automotive department for the Genesee Area Skill Center and Flint Community Schools. Jim was a field engineer for Eaton Towne and Yale. He was an active board member of the Automotive Service Council, founding member of the Genesee Veterans Memorial and board member of the Michigan Firemen’s Memorial Festival Committee. He belonged to National Hot Rod Association, Safari Club International and Flint Traffic Club.
Jim is survived by wife, Jeanette; children, Tony (Amy), Andrea (Eric) Barbre; mother of his children, Bonnie Gray; Jeanette’s children, Joe (Luisa), Scott (Jennifer), Jack (Jennifer) Sutherby, Annette (Paul) Sheneman and Dawn Anschutz; 21 grandchildren; brothers, Russell (Glenda) and Roger (Lorie); sister, Kathy Gray; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother, Ron Gray.
