DICKINSON, Shirley Maxine - Age 85, of Flushing, died Monday, April 28, 2014. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, May 3, 2014 at West Court Street Church of God, 2920 W. Court St, Flint. Rev. Timothy McKenzie and Dr. Rick Pertler officiating. Burial immediately following in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be held at the church Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to the General Assembly of the Church of God in Michigan, 4212 Alpha St., Lansing, MI 48910.
Shirley was born March 18, 1929 in Lincoln, CA, the daughter of Joseph Amos and Avis Helen (Durnell) Wilson. She was a graduate and Valedictorian of Lincoln Union High School and she attended Warner Pacific College. She married O. Wayne Dickinson July 15, 1949 in Lincoln, CA. She retired from the Indiana State Ministries and she had also worked for the Church of God Missionary Board, and the Lansing Conservatory of Music. Shirley had resided in Flushing for the past 10 years, she had also resided in Carmel, IN, Anderson, IN, Lansing, MI, and Lodi, CA. She was also Spiritual Life Director for the PTA, Welcome Wagon Hostess, a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, and the Women of the Church of God Spiritual Life Director.
Surviving are: husband, Rev. O. Wayne; 4 children, Karen and husband Ken Walters of Kalamazoo, Marla and husband Rick Pertler of Swartz Creek, Gordon and wife Carolyn Dickinson of Swartz Creek, and Curtis and wife Marlene Dickinson of Canton, GA; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren on the way; sister, Melba Baker of Rancho Cordova, CA; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lela Wilson; and brother, Loyal Wilson. Online tributes may be posted on the obituaries page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
