BALLARD, Carol J. – of Flint, age 80, passed away September 28, 2014 at her daughter’s residence. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 3 PM Friday, October 3, 2014 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. Rev. Karen Williams officiating. Visitation will be 1-3 PM Friday.
Carol was born in Flint, MI on September 11, 1934, daughter of the late Harold and Blanche aka “Alice” (Weishuhn) Schmitzer.She attended Parkland Presbyterian Church growing up as a child and into her adulthood and was currently a member of Thetford Center United Methodist Church. Carol was always talking about the wonderful childhood she had, she loved to be around friends and family and loved a good party. She spent summers at Pennman cottages in East Tawas and graduated from Flint Northern in 1953. Carol worked at Seekings Drugs as a teen, and then married the owners’ son Delbert on April 10, 1954 in Angola, Indiana. They had four children together, Paula, Glenn, Linda and Tina. They divorced in 1968. She then met Jerry Ballard again; she had dated him a few times in High School. They were married August 24, 1974 and were together until his death in January 1991. Carol loved to go camping with family and extended family, ride on their boat and fish for perch on Lake Huron. She was a member of the “Order of the Eastern Stars”, Vienna Chapter # 283, a member of “Women of the Moose”, Evart Chapter # 2260 and she retired from Fischer Body “Turnsteads” on Coldwater Rd., Flint.
Carol is survived by her children, Paula Gancarz, Glenn Seekings, Tina (Bryan) Isbell, Cynthia (Joe) Salacuse, Jerry (Marilyn) Ballard, Susan (Buster) Collins, Judith (Richard) Tindall; grandchildren, Joseph Seekings, Wendy Seekings, Matthew Isbell, Jammie Seekings, Lindsey Isbell, Christopher Seekings, Jennifer Thomas, Toby Smith, Jerry Ballard, Kevin Ballard, Nolan Blake, Magen Freeman; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Schmitzer; sister, Patricia (Dave) Harrison; sister-in-law, Marvella Howe; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Deanna Flore and cousin Carol Sue; dog, Abby. She was preceded in death by son, Michael Ballard; daughter, Linda Lee Seekings; first husband, Delbert Seekings and special “sister” cousin Beverly Snyder. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Traci and the many members of Reverence Hospice.
