Wares, Mary M. of New Lothrop, formerly of Flushing and Beulah, age 87, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 at MediLodge of Montrose. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Rossell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Mary was born in Paragould, Arkansas on December 7, 1924, the daughter of Riley and Arive (Row) Smith. She graduated from Bear Lake High School and attended NYA Trade School in Flint. She married Richard “Dick” Wares on July 8, 1946 in Flint. He preceded her in death on August 16, 1995. Mrs. Wares worked at A.C. Spark Plug in Flint during World War II as “Rosie the Riveter.” She later worked at Flint Chevrolet Manufacturing Plant 4 as an inspector on the motor line. Mary belonged to the U.A.W. Local 659. Mrs. Wares lived in Flint most of her life. After retirement, she moved from Flushing to the Frankfort and Beulah area for twenty one years before moving back to Flushing. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with her husband, Dick. Mary was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of New Lothrop and Flushing Senior Center. She also enjoyed flower gardening.
Mary is survived by: sons, Ray Wares of Ludington, Richard “Dick” and wife Karen Wares of Marquette, Wyiet and wife Tena Wares of New Lothrop; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters.
