Benjamin Joseph Bishop, of Maple Grove Township,

passed away peacefully at Covenant Harrison hospital, on March 8, 2025, at the age of 80.

Ben was born on December 27, 1944, in Owosso, Michigan. The son of Joseph and Genevieve (Sutter) Bishop. He was raised in Maple Grove Township, where he attended St. Michael's Catholic School and was Valedictorian for the class of 1963. Following graduation, he attended the University of Detroit Mercy, where he earned his Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1968. While in college, he married his wife, Doris Jean Gasper on July 15, 1967. Together, they raised their four children, Christopher, Andrew, Thomas, and Erica in Maple Grove Township. Ben worked at General Motors and Delphi Automotive as an engineer for 38.5 years until retiring.

Ben was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and camping. You could oftentimes hear him singing, catch him eating a delicious meal, or reading. He was a member of the St. Michael's Choir for over 60 years, and was a part of a barbershop quartet in his younger years. Above all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.


Ben is survived by his wife, Doris Bishop; children, Christopher (Amanda) Bishop, Andrew (Jennifer) Bishop, Thomas (Colleen) Bishop, and Erica (Joseph) Birkmeier; 10 grandchildren; siblings, Joanne Rombach, Carolyn (Thomas) Lucius, and Frederick (Paula) Bishop; brother-in-law, Robert Erdman; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Genevieve; siblings, infant sister Mary Bishop, Charles (Ann) Bishop, Norma Erdman, and James (Pat) Bishop.


Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 from 2:00pm until 7:00pm, with a Vigil service at 7:00pm, at McGeehan Funeral Home - Martin Chapel. A funeral mass will be at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Maple Grove, with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, St. Michael's Catholic Church, or to the Bishop Family.
