Richard "Dick" Herman Turnwald
On Friday, October 25, 2019, Richard Turnwald went home to be with the Lord. He rejoins his beloved wife Bernadine (Marchok) to whom he was married for 63 years before she preceded him in death last June. He leaves behind his children, Richard (Jorge Ramos), Michael (JoAnn), and Mark Turnwald (Jim Metts); his daughter-in-law, Michelle Turnwald; his nephew and niece, Harry Andres and Diane Ziola (Brian) Strong whom he loved as his own children.
He was the cherished grandfather of Nicholas, Sydney, and Maxwell, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews.
Dick was born on February 20, 1932 to the late Anthony and Mary Turnwald. He is survived by his sister Frieda Walters. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Sockup, Theodore, William, Bernetta Hedrich, Cletus, Herman, Raymond, Rita Ziola, and Rudolph.
Dick lived his entire life in Maple Grove, Michigan and was a devoted member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was an usher, Eucharistic minister, and cared for the parish flower gardens for over 30 years.
Throughout his life, Dick enjoyed wood working and traveling. He visited all 50 states and over 50 countries. Dick volunteered at the Twin Township Ambulance Service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and he was a 4-H Club leader teaching woodworking and electric.
His career included working at Universal Electric in Owosso and AC Spark Plug in Flint from where he retired.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at St. Michael Catholic Church of Maple Grove. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery. The family will receive friends at McGeehan Funeral Homes Martin Chapel on Monday, October 28th from 3:00 to 8:00pm with a Scripture Service at 7:00pm.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Michael Catholic Church.
