Pamela was born on March 4, 1926 to parents, Herbert Ancel Minett and Ivy Culliford Minett in Carmarthen, South Wales. She was an only child and as such found great company reading books from her father’s bookshop on Fleet Street in Swindon. Pamela worked in that bookshop during WWII. She met Cecil Schaaf, an American pilot and became a war bride. They moved to Flint, Michigan in 1945 and had four children, Carol, Linda, Craig and David. Some of us are blessed with second chapters to our lives and Pamela was later married to Raymond Utley. Ray had two children, Carol and Ray Jr. Our happy blended family grew over the years with grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great great grandchildren. Suffice it to say, a long life of 93 years can be filled with many joys from family to career to hobbies.
Pamela worked at Durant-Tuuri Mott School in Flint, Michigan for many years as an occupational therapist. She worked well with the children, inspiring them with her love of reading and her creative, artistic skills. After Pamela retired, she devoted a great deal of her time to painting. Each year at Christmas, her beautiful paintings of birds were printed on fine stock and sent to friends and family. These thoughtful gifts will hang in our homes and we will remember her talent and her spirit.
No life story would be complete without a little humor. Pamela and Ray played a lot of golf. This was something they could do together; Ray the serious golfer and Pamela, the cheerful companion always striving to better her game. One day, while playing at Genesee Hills Golf Club, Pamela swung her club and prepared to take a few more shots. She looked and looked, but could not find her ball. Just as desperation set in, someone on the green held up her ball! She had actually shot a hole-in-one. Now that had to be a very good day. And for those of us who truly loved her, we celebrate her many good days.
Our precious mother will be remembered with much love: Carol and Doug Breed of Gaylord, Michigan, Linda and Phillip Smith of Tucson, Arizona, Craig and Debra Schaaf of Flushing, Michigan, David Schaaf of Grand Blanc, Michigan, Carol McWilliams and Ray Utley Jr. Grandchildren include: Jenny, Robin, Jeanne, Valerie, Michael, Aaron, Casey, Ray, Brad, and Grant. Great grandchildren: Tanner, Peyton, Bennett, Jensen, Kate, Zachary, Caroline, Cassidy, Alyssa, Joshua, Hanna, and Jake.
