COGGINS, Patrick J. – of Flint, age 79, passed away November 15, 2014 at VA Ann Arbor Medical Center. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Thursday, November 20, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2500 N. Franklin Ave., Flint; Rev. Fr. Santhiyagu Arockiyasamy celebrant. Private burial with Military Honors will be in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be at the church from 9 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northend Soup Kitchen, St. Mary Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.
Patrick was born in Flint, MI on March 17, 1935, son of the late Jerome and Iva (Thorpe) Coggins. He married Marion P. Zmuda at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Flint on January 14, 1956. Patrick was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church Flint. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed woodworking. Patrick loved helping people and was a member of the Northend Soup Kitchen. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Marion; children, Michael (Kathy), Michele Lightle, Carman (Rodney) Coggins, Paula (Lee) Ferrell, Matthew (Heidi); 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Jenny) Coggins; brother-in-law, Dave McDonald; cousin, Richard O’Neill; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
