Robert R. Maier, age 75 of Durand, passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Memorial Healthcare Center in Owosso. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel with Pastor Paul Theiss officiating. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Bob was born on July 13, 1937 in Bay City, MI to Raymond and Shirley (Sommers) Maier.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Christine (Blackburn) Maier of Durand and his children: Robert, Jr. of Spring Lake and Michelle of Owosso; 3 grandchildren: Hanna, Julia and Alexandreia. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas (Kay) Maier of Midland and sister, Barbara Maier as well as several nieces and nephews.
Other close surviving relatives include several sisters and brothers-in-law, including: Bethany Everhart of Fenton, Tom and Irene Blackburn of McKinleyville, CA, Sue Hale of Durand, Michael and Eileen Blackburn of Portland, OR, Brian and Cindy Blackburn of Durand, Art and Rosemary Hutchinson of Durand, Jim and Claudia Berry of Everett, WA, Mark and Peggy Blackburn of Durand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, Ellamae Blackburn, and brother-in-law, Larry Hale.
Bob retired from Hehr International in Chesaning in 1999. He also spent many years working at Johnson Controls, Coca Cola, and Schmelzer Corp.
He was a proud graduate of Michigan State University.
Anyone who knew Bob, knew his interests. Rated at the top would be fishing the waters of Michigan and Pennsylvania. Duck hunting on the Bay, traveling to Nascar races around the country and being a holder of MSU season football tickets. His specialty was making fly rods which have found their way all over the united States.
