BRIGGS, Irene Elizabeth - Of Clio, age 102, died Saturday, July 21, 2012 at home surrounded by her family.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Pastor Leonard Kitson officiating.
Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the First Flint Seventh Day Adventist Church School.
Visitation Monday 4-8pm and Tuesday 11am-8pm at the funeral home.
Irene was born in Saginaw County, Michigan on January 19, 1910, the daughter of the late Rollie and Emma (Thomas) Hale and lived in the Flint and Clio area her entire life. On August 15, 1937, she married E. Blake Briggs in Flint. Irene was both a teacher and a principal in the Beecher Schools for 46 years retiring in 1975. Irene was a lifelong member of the First Flint Seventh Day Adventist Church. She served for many years as both as a children’s and adult Sabbath School Leader.
Surviving are daughters, Merilyn Sue Austin of Mt. Morris and Cheryn L. Briggs of Clio;
grandchildren, Ronda Sierra of Clio and John H. Austin of Mt. Morris;
great-grandchildren, Dustin Sierra (Hollie) of South Carolina, Drew (Jamie) Sierra of Flushing, Devin Sierra of Clio, Mallory Austin of Clio, Shelby (Derek) Wagner of Mt. Morris and Jonathon Austin of Clio;
great-great-grandchildren, Sage and Ava Wilson and Adelayed and Evangelyne Wagner;
pets, Teddy Bear, Rosebub, Tigger and Baxter;
and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Blake in October, 1991.
