OWEN, Robert F. - of Grand Blanc, MI, age 92, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Friday, September 6, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 11 AM-7 PM Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 10-11 AM Friday, September 6, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A Rosary will be prayed 5:30 PM Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Davison, MI.
Robert was born on January 21, 1927 to Charles E. and Josephine (Wescott) Owen in Maple Forest Township in Crawford County, Michigan. Bob joined the Navy as soon as he turned 17 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. One of the highlights of his life was the Pride and Honor flight he took to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. Bob married Betty L. Mankowski in Gaylord, Michigan on April 15, 1950 They moved to Flint and raised their family there. Bob was a retired member of Carpenter Local #706. He spent forty years in the commercial construction business, and retired as a superintendent for Walbridge Aldinger in 1990. After retirement, Bob and Betty spent time traveling in their motor home and spent their winters in Casa Grande, AZ. Bob enjoyed golfing with the “Over the Hill Gang” at Kearsley and Swartz Creek golf courses.
Besides his wife of 69 years, Betty, he is survived by children, Barbara (Roger) Narvesen of Crossville, TN, Ray (Roseann), Michael (Lori) of Grand Blanc, MI, Jerry (Leslie) of Phoenix, AZ, Bill (Kathy) of Chandler, AZ, Jim of Tucson, AZ, Rob (Shelly) of Kingman, AZ. There are 12 grandchildren, Rob (Kathy) Giguere, Andrea (Rob) Brown, Amy (Matt) Olson, Paul (Nicole), Patrick, Tony, Kyle (Ashley), Kelsie, Hayley, Quinn, Alison and Wyatt; step-grandchildren include Jessie, (Jim) and children, Isabella and Josephine, Rhonda (Rick) and children, Roman, Ethan and Emilia. There are eight great-grandchildren, Samantha, Alexandra, Max, Jon, Wil, Olivia, Luke and Harper. He is also survived by brother, David of Idaho, and a special family friend, Mary Ann Ruddy. He was preceded in death by sons, Dale and Thomas; grandson Joshua; his parents; sister, Jean; brothers, Charles and Dick. Many thanks to Reverence Hospice and Wellbridge of Fenton.
