Born December 5, 1935, Marcia J. Werkema was the 1st of 4 children of Marinus “Rene” Van Den Berg and Emma Jean (Stryker) in Imlay City, MI. After growing up in Imlay City and working at the large family vegetable farm, Marcia met Douglas Werkema, the love of her life at Calvin College and were married for 68 years. They lived in Kalamazoo, St. Clair Shores, Grosse Pointe Park, Holly, and Fenton while wintering in Henderson NV. Marcia was a seamstress, a sailmaker, Sunday school teacher, and an active member of her church community. She taught her kids and many grandkids the gift of sewing. She regularly penned letters to several of her 91 cousins, other family, and friends. Marcia is survived by her 4 children: Cynthia Jean Bond and spouse Andre (Birmingham MI), Cathleen Sue Zylman and her spouse Ted (Las Vegas NV), Julie Ann Garrison and her spouse Steven (Jerome MI), and Douglas Dale Werkema Jr and his spouse Stephanie (Henderson NV); her eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; and her brothers: James (Rena) Van Den Berg and Robert (Dolores ‘Do’) Van Den Berg. She was pre-deceased by her younger brother Roger (Bonnie) Van Den Berg. She left a legacy of caring, kindness, firmness, and a myriad of people who can alter, modify, and repair any article of clothing. Moreover, she made this world a better place. Family will greet friends and loved ones on Friday, May 17, 2024 from 10AM until time of service at 11AM at Grace Chapel of Waterford, 2515 N Williams Lake Rd, Waterford Twp, MI. A graveside burial will be held at 4 PM at Imlay Cemetery, 671 Fairgrounds Ln, Imlay City, MI.
