ROOT, O. Jean Of Grand Blanc, age 89, died Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Swartz Funeral Home 1225 West Hill Road, The Rev.George L. Cleaves, Jr. officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Children's Leukemia Society of Michigan. Visitation 2-8 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2012 and 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Root was born on January 26, 1923 in Flint, Michigan and was the daughter of Edward and Nellie (Braden) Burnie. She married James B. Root on January 28, 1942 and he preceded her in death in 2007. Surviving are her son, Larry; granddaughter, Laura Elgood; grandson, Austin Root; sister, Marie Orvis; 6 nieces, Frances Terrian, Debbie (Ray) Olsey, Denise (Ron) McMahon, Debbie (Brad) Holloway, Diane (Doug) Hamilton and Karen (Jon) Lewis; 5 nephews, Eldon (Shirley) Dove, Dennis (Juanita) and Tom Thompson; Dr. Douglas (Jan) Schneck and Orlon "Butch" VanSteenburg; many cousins and friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Janet Elgood M.S.N., R.N., C.S. The family would like to thank all of her friends and the staff at Abbey Park, Caring from the Heart, Genesys Regional Medical Center, Genesys Hospice Care Center, Dr. Larry Braver and Reverend George L.
