Byrnes, Helen Theresa, of Flushing, age 86, died Thursday, January 7, 2016, at McLaren-Flint, surrounded by her loving family. Per Helen's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2016, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Gordon Reigle will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Monday at the church until the time of the Mass. If desired, memorial contributions may be made for Masses at the church or a charity of your choice.

Helen was born in Flint, Michigan on May 22, 1929, the daughter of Joseph and Stella (Kearns) Byrnes. She graduated from St. Michael Catholic High School in 1948. She went to work for the Diocese of Lansing as a secretary for several churches for 52 years, retiring in 2002. She was a devout Catholic who attended Mass daily. Helen was known for her love of shopping, her famous cheesecake and peanut butter fudge.

She will be lovingly remembered by her only sister, Annette Byrnes, whom she lived together with for 80 years, never being apart from birth until death. Over the past week, Annette has given special care to her sister. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, Sharon (Nick) George, Karen (Vern) Sturdy, Sue Young, Debbie Dowdall, Cindy (Ralph) Stiff, Mike Byrnes; many great and great-great nieces and nephews, special great-great nephew, Aiden Joseph. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Joseph Byrnes and Harold Byrnes.
