SMITH, James Edward - Age 75, passed away with his family by his side on December 22, 2014 at McLaren Select Specialty Hospital in Flint. Today, his family and friends find comfort in knowing that he is forever at home with the Savior he so faithfully served for over 45 years. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 at New Covenant Church, 13176 North Linden Road, Clio, Reverend Dan Shinabarger and Reverend Larry Maddox officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to New Covenant Church in Clio.
Jim was born in Burt on March 23, 1939 to the late James and Mary (Bolter) Smith. He married the love of his life, Belva Wager, on June 1st, 1963. Jim worked at Saginaw Steering Gear/Delphi for 40 years. He was a long-standing member of the Clio Wesleyan Church, where he served in many capacities. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and camp.
He will forever be missed by: wife, Belva; children, Warren (Heidi) Smith of Birch Run, Rhonda Skellett of Clio, Erric (Erica) Smith of Clio, Renea Smith of Clio, Robin Smith of Clio; grandchildren, April, Adam, Kayla, Logan, Braydan, Chloe; special niece, Michelle Tanner Frost of Ballston Lake, New York. Jim was preceded in death by granddaughter, Madelyn Marie; son-in-law, Larry Skellett of Clio; two sisters, Madelyn Tanner of Birch Run and Evelyn Palmer-Ashley of Saginaw; brother, Richard Smith of Birch Run; best friend, Charley Moody of Fort Wayne, Indiana. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Wilton and Diane Wager for all their support and encouragement over the past year.
