LaMay – R. James – of Montrose, age 89, died Sunday, October 13, 2019, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 18, 2019, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Chaplain David Owen will officiate. Burial will follow in Montrose Township Cemetery with graveside military honors. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 11 AM – 8 PM and Friday from 10 AM until the time of service at 11.
Jim was born July 16, 1930 in Lapeer, Michigan to the late Edgar and Hazel (Miller) LaMay. He had resided in Montrose for over 60 years. Jim was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and was a member of the American Legion Post #367. He married Benita June Bunting in 1952. She preceded him in death in 2001. Jim married Jeanie Marston in 2005. He retired from General Motors in 1994 with 22 years of service. Jim was a former member and Sunday school teacher at the Montrose United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Trinity Assembly of God in Mt. Morris where he served as an usher and elder. Jim enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, landscaping, gardening, bike riding and bowling.
Surviving are: Wife, Jeanie; Children: Jaymi and Tony Stout ,Jim and Kaye LaMay, Matt and Candy LaMay, Adam and Gaye LaMay, Jay and Jodie Newcomer, Jeff and Amanda Newcomer, Jenean Newcomer Haapala. 15 Grandchildren: Bina (Kent Smith), Ben Stout, Alexandra (Chris Eskew), Joe (Tess) LaMay, David LaMay, Josh LaMay, Tena (Aaron) Moody, Lynsey Ball, Trent Pollard, Zach LaMay, Christa Zawol, JC Newcomer, Makenzie Newcomer, Griffen Mascioli, Ethan Haapala; 16 Great Grandchildren; Brother,Dave and Joyce LaMay; Sisters: Patsy and Mary Ellen; Several nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends. Jim was also preceded in death by brothers: Richard, Pete, Eugene, and Rex, and sisters: June, Erma and Jan.
