Bur, Elaine Rita (Lennon) , age 92, of Lennon, passed away Monday, September 21, 2015, surrounded by her family at her home. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2015, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Gordon Reigle will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Robert Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at the church Friday until the time of the Mass. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Flint Area Right to Life, Powers Catholic High School or Masses.
Elaine was born at her home in Lennon, Michigan on September 27, 1922, the daughter of Peter and Louise (McGraw) Lennon. She married Louis Bur in Flushing on October 23, 1948. Mrs. Bur was a graduate of Marygrove College and later attended Wayne State University to study law. She was a teacher in the Detroit and Swartz Creek School Systems for many years. She was also a volunteer secretary for the Flint Area Right to Life.
Elaine and her husband Louis raised 11 children on their family's centennial farm in Lennon. The farm where Elaine was born has been in the Lennon and Bur families for 179 years. Elaine was a woman of incredible faith as a long time member of St. Mary Queen of Angels in Swartz Creek and St. Robert in Flushing. She was a loving mother and grandmother and has left a tremendous legacy of love for her family.
She is survived by 11 children, Michael (Rebecca) of Lennon, Susie (James) Brown of Veneta, OR, Julie Hood of Yachats, OR, Kevin (Debra) of Flushing, Mary Rohner of Swartz Creek, Brian of Swartz Creek, Daniel (Annke) of Florence, OR, Suk (Paul) Karkau of East Lansing, Brad (Donna) of Clarkston, Colleen (Michael) Macciomei of Shelby Twp., Peter of Boca Raton, FL, 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Feuerstein of New Lothrop; sister-in-law, Pearl (Charles) Bur of Westland; many nieces and nephews. Elaine was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Catherine Lennon, Margaret Race, Mary Grace Frawley; son-in-law, Jimmie Hood, husband of daughter, Julie; and Anne Bur, wife of son, Brian.
