LONG, Janice E. – Of Burton, age 83, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at McLaren-Select Specialty.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Pastor Edward A. Borycz officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Blanc.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Janice was born in Flint, Michigan on May 6, 1931, the daughter of George and Rhea (Colvin) Stoutenburg. She married Russel J. Long of Lennon on April 5, 1958. She was a member of Farnumwood Presbyterian Church, where she was an Elder and a Deacon. She was currently a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
She was a graduate of Flint Northern, Flint Junior College and earned her BS from Central Michigan and MA from University of Michigan.
Mrs. Long was an elementary teacher in Flint Community Schools for 31 years at Doyle, Cummings, Dewey, Potter and Bunche Elementary Schools, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Bentley School Board for 9 years, member of NARFE; Iota Nu Chapter - Pi Omicron Sorority; Red Cross Volunteer at FOH for 10 years until it closed; mentor at West Bendle School HOST Program, and a member of Flint Genealogy Society.
Janice enjoyed traveling with special friends, Frank and Ag Perkins, camping with family, reading, baking cookies and working on family genealogy.
Surviving are her husband, Russel J.;
sons, Scott Long of Burton, David and wife Teri Long of Canton;
granddaughters, Monica Lidster and Melissa (Dan) Graham;
sister, Arleda and husband Bruce Acre;
brother, Robert and Michile Stoutenburg;
sister-in-law, Marilyn Stoutenburg;
special niece, Melinda and Tim Hager;
several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and two great-grandsons of both her and her husband's families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William and Darwin; sister, Althea Ondovcsik; step-brother, Ron White and step-mother, Sue Stoutenburg.
