Wife of the late Gerald Brohn, daughter of the late Oscar Glandorf and Erma Kaufman Glandorf, sister of the late Ruth Pike, and late infant brothers Edward and Louis. Lois is survived by her children, Jeffrey Brohn, Peter (Karen) Brohn and Daniel Brohn; brother David (Becky) Glandorf and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lois was born in Dubuque, Iowa on June 11, 1934. After graduating from Williamsburg High School, Lois attended Concordia Teachers College in Seward, NE. The next year was spent at Zion Lutheran School in Omaha, NE teaching grades K-4. She returned to Concordia the following year to continue work on her degree. In September 1956, Lois accepted the position of third and fourth grade teacher at St. John’s Lutheran School in Adrian, MI. She received her B.S. in Education in August of 1957 and continued serving at St. John’s. The summer of 1958 brought Lois to St. Paul, Flint to teach first grade and when the school was moved to its new location on Ballenger Hwy in December of 1959, kindergarten was added to the first grade. Lois served as assistant organist and Sunday School teacher at each of these congregations.
On June 23, 1962, she married Gerald Brohn. In December of 1963 Lois left the classroom to be a full-time wife, homemaker and mother of three sons. Lois returned to the classroom as a part-time kindergarten assistant in 1980 and continued in this role until 1998 when she finally retired.
Since 1966 the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League has provided her opportunity to follow their motto: “Serve The Lord With Gladness.” Lois held every office in her congregation’s society. As a member of the Fishers of Men from 1982-1985, Lois learned the joy of sharing the gospel with the unchurched. A BASIC sharing group met in her home for several years and together they grew as disciples and friends. Lois was also active with the Altar Guild at St. Paul.
Lois enjoyed music as an active participant and passive listener – especially classical. She participated in the church choir, handbells and was a high school choir director. She was active in a group called Masters Singers and enjoyed performing for groups around the city. When time permitted Lois enjoyed sewing, knitting, camping, bowling, golf, pickleball and water aerobics.
