Jerry D. Petersen, age 73, of Alto, MI and Columbia City, OR, formerly of Marlette, MI passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020 with family by his side into the loving arms of Jesus his Saviour, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI.
He was born May 31, 1946 in Marlette, MI, son of Donald and Donna (Boag) Petersen. Jerry grew up working on the family farm. He graduated from Marlette High School with the Class of 1964. After graduation he worked at General Motors retiring with 34 years of service in 1999. Jerry married Rebecca “Sue” Elrod June 10, 1967 in Flint, MI and they were married for 52 years. He and Sue spent their time with family between Alto, MI and Columbia City, OR after retirement. Jerry attended Ada Bible Church in Alto, MI. He loved serving his family and working with his hands. Jerry enjoyed attending his grandsons ball games, going to his granddaughters recitals and performances, deer hunting, reading and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Sue” Petersen; children, Duane D. (Connie) Petersen, Kimberly S. Petersen and Traci L. (Jim) Wolfe; grandchildren, Hannah L. Petersen, Kailee M. Petersen, Owen G. Wolfe, Claire N. Petersen and Neil H. Wolfe; sisters, Karen (Jim) Dieckmann, Judy Drago, Kathy (Mike) Haynes and Cyndie (Scott) Walstra; step brothers, Ken (Mary Ellen) Miller, Dale (Debbie) Miller and Glen (Diane) Miller; several nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Ron Elrod.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Donna Petersen; step father, Henry Miller; father and mother-in law, Douglas and Viva Elrod; baby sister, Linda Petersen; sister and brother-in-law, Renna (William) Caudle; niece, Colleen Caudle; nephew, Jeff Haynes; and great niece, Isabelle Moustakas.
The family will receive visitors from 2 – 8 PM Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette and 10 AM until time of the service Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at North Goodland Baptist Church, Imlay City, MI.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at North Goodland Baptist Church 3080 N. Van Dyke Rd., Imlay City, MI 48444 with Pastor's Jim McFarland and Art Conrad officiating.
A private family burial will follow at Burnside Township Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund in care of Rebecca Petersen for Grandchildren's Education, or Michigan Humane Society.
