Jones, Sister Florine age-98 passed away Tuesday October 17, 2017 at Briarwood Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday October 23, 2017 from the Macedonia M.B. Church G-5443 N. Saginaw St. Pastor Samuel Berry III officiating. Interment Gracelawn Cemetery 5710 N. Saginaw St. Family and friends will assemble at the church 10am for visitation. Sister Jones will repose in the Chapel of the Martin J. Banks Funeral Home and may be viewed from 1pm until 6pm Sunday.
Sister Florine Jones was born October 7, 1919 in Coldwater, Mississippi to the parents of Arman and Elizabeth (Alexander) Haskell. At the age of twelve, after experiencing the death of her mother, Sister Jones moved to West Memphis, Arkansas to be raised by her grandmother Nancy Alexander along with her aunt Mary Jones. She later moved to Chicago, Illinois, and attended schools in Chicago, Illinois. She was later employed by The Keebler Company where she became a supervisor and retired after 36 years of service. Sister Jones moved to Flint, Michigan in the early 80’s, and joined in fellowship as a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she was active in Sunday School class # 7, The Senior Choir, and The Inspirational Voices until her health failed, and would often lead the song, “He’s Already Done What He Said He Would Do.” Sister Jones served as a volunteer for many years with Genesee County Area Action Council “People Council” receiving many awards for her hard work and her dedication. Sister Jones was active with the Great Lakes District Women Department as one of the senior models, drawing much applause. Sister Jones modeled for several plus size stores in Chicago, IL. Sister Jones graduated at the age of 75 from Mott Adult School.
Sister Florine Jones will be sadly missed by her family, one Aunt Mother Malinda Pittmon, and Pittmon, Fisher, Love, and Hubbard family members, including special cousins Minister JoAnn Brown, Pastor Earl Fisher, Durell Fisher of Houston TX, Tony and Lula Rea Jones of Chicago, IL. Godsons: Martin J. Banks, James Tony Watson of Collierville, TN. Goddaughters: Alzora Stokes, Patricia Ellison, Ovaline White, and Angel Jones of Chicago, IL, and Special friends: Elder and Mrs. Turner Hartfield, Rose Langley, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Clemons.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Linval Fleetwood, the entire staff at the Briarwood Nursing Home, Nurse Sandi Tarkowski, Kathy Chheda, Deborah Cahwee, Shay Kelly, Monica Edwards, Benita Bradshaw, Deacon Vinson Lever, Alice Crawford, Pastor Samuel Berry III, Elder Lakisha Berry, and the Macedonia Baptist Church family.
