BARBEE, Mrs. Alice Jewell - Age 87, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at her residence. Due to COVID-19, the family have changed the services for Alice Barbee. Mrs. Barbee will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday, with family present throughout the day to receive friends. On Friday, March 27, 2020, the family will gather at the graveside for a private burial. There will be a celebration of life later to be announced. Mrs. Alice Jewell Barbee (Wilson) was born on April 30, 1932 in Pontiac, Michigan and became the daughter of Clarence and Mary Bell (Molly) Wilson through adoption. Alice attended Flint Central High School graduating in 1950. She was a member of the Madrigal singers and participated in many school performances. Alice accepted Christ at an early age becoming a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Her parents, Clarence and Molly were founding members of Mt. Olive. Alice was very active in the Chancel Choir participating in many concerts, revivals and programs. She also served on the Mothers Board, Flower Club and Wedding Committee. Alice worked at Genesee Memorial Hospital for 20 years before retiring. Alice loved people and never met a stranger. She was always there to offer advice and words of wisdom. She loved her fur babies, Shingh, Boogie, Mouse and Itty-Bitty. She was fearless when it came to her children even those she didn’t birth. She would go toe-to-toe with anyone who messed with them. Alice also loved to direct weddings. Her favorite instruction was to eat before the wedding so you wouldn’t pass out during the ceremony or before. She always wanted everyone to be the best they could be and would help in any way she could. Alice was also very supportive of her favorite Gospel group “The Spiritual Wonders” (Althea Barbee, M. Lynn Barbee, Alfreda Duncan, Corinne Edwards and Nancy Murphy). Alice leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Mary Lynn and Althea Joyce Barbee, and three son’s, David Bruce, Simon Arthur and Jody Stevan Barbee all of Flint, her only granddaughter, Lynise Ma’re Barbee of Grand Blanc, MI; great-grand daughter, Ava Rae Jewell Hayes, also of Grand Blanc, MI; nieces, Karen Tillage and Annette Scott of Flint, Shelia (Horatio) Haynes of DeSota, TX, Janet (Jesse) Davis of Flint, Bertha Barbee McNeal of Kalamazoo, MI, Evelyn Ward, Norma Barbee Fairhurst, both of Flint, Mary “Jeannie” Lyles (Herbert) Nicholson of Springfield, IL and Wilma Cunningham of Atlanta, GA; nephews, Glen Tillage of Flint, Kevin Tillage of Waldorf, MD and Sam (Beverly) Jones of Grand Blanc, MI; special cousin, Bobbie Lyles of Flint; two sisters-in-law, Amilee Troutman of Flint and Sarah Faire of Centerville, IL; former son-in-law, Therman Lusane Jr.; she also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, Billie Edwards, Bob Patterson, Dorothy Alexander and Rita Alexander. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mary Bell Wilson; sister, Sally Tillage; brother, Ward McClellan, and former husband and father of her children Rev. Simon Barbee. The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice, Dr. Ernesto Duterte and staff, Dr. Joseph K. Varghese and staff, Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Flint, Sondra “San” Huddleston, Rev. Ronald Wilson, Brianca Neely and Brianna Neely, Zeta Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Flint Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Rev. Jevon Catlett and the Mt. Beginning on March 17, 2020 at 9:00 am, and continuing through April 5, 2020 at 5:00 pm, all assemblages of more than 50 people in a single indoor shared space and all events of more than 50 people are prohibited in this state. A single indoor shared space includes but is not limited to a room, hall, cafeteria, auditorium, theater, or gallery. The prohibition on assemblages set forth in this section does not apply to: The prohibition set forth in this section does not abridge protections guaranteed by the state or federal constitution under these emergency circumstances. We do understand that this may pose a challenge to you and your family, but our dedicated staff is here to help guide you towards making the best decisions in memorializing your loved one.********
