McLEAN, Evelyn – Our little red-headed firecracker, Evelyn Marie McLean, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, the fourth of July, 2019.
In her 92 years of life she was able to teach love and compassion to her family, friends, and all of those lucky enough to interact with her.
Evelyn started out her journey on March 11th, 1927 in Flint, Michigan. Born the only child to Murle and Julia Cross, it wasn't long before she sought out adventure. She first found it working as the Secretary to the Chief of Police in Flint for several years. She would later finish out her career days known as "the hiring lady" at General Motors. Evelyn's greatest adventure began when she married the love of her life, Robert Patrick McLean, in 1951 and started a family. Always the over-achiever, she made sure not to have an only child of her own, and instead had five.
Over the years her family continued to expand, eventually settling in Mount Morris, Michigan. At the time of her passing, Evelyn had already lost her adored husband Bob and eldest daughter, Mona Austin. Left missing her are her children; Mark (Kim) McLean, Todd (Mary Jane) McLean, Mary (Tom) Cummings, Tomm (Diane) McLean, along with 12 grand-children (whom she lovingly referred to as her shit-birds), 28 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, best friend and cousin Audrey Kocher, and many other extended family members and friends.
Evelyn was so loved and will always be remembered by those closest to her for her listening ear, heart of gold, fast knitting skills, amazing meringue pies, disliking of cats, obsession with seagulls and lighthouses, liking of gin and tonics, quick backhand, love of all things orange, and overwhelming love and dedication to her family.
Visitation 1-4 and 5-8 p.m. Sunday and 12 p.m. Monday until the time of the service at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Dale Emery officiating.
Evelyn's long and fulfilled life will be celebrated at 2 P.M. Monday, July 8, 2019 at the funeral home.
Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Morris.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Salvation Army.
