BARBER, Robert Lee “Bob” – of Flint, age 80, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Genesys Hospice Care Center – Goodrich. A Funeral Service will be held 10 AM Monday, April 29, 2013 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, Rev. Jeremy Benton officiating. A Graveside Service, with Military Honors, will be in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:30 PM Monday. The family will receive visitors from 2-8 PM Sunday. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Genesys Hospice Care Center or Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #4087.
Bob was born in Flint, MI on December 19, 1932, son of the late Elwood T. and Edna M. (Nelson) Barber. Bob married Shirley (Mihos) McHugh in August of 1980. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2001. Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in both France and Germany. He worked for E. I. Dupont for 32 years, retiring in 1983. Bob was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #4087. He absolutely loved spending time with his family. Bob enjoyed making and repairing clocks and then donating them to the V.F.W. and the Ortonville United Methodist Youth Group. He enjoyed antiquing, golfing, bowling and sitting on the porch visiting with his neighbors.
Bob is survived by his children, Debbie (Jon) Kekel-DeGroot, Linda R. (Rick) Hayes, Tracy Barber, Art McHugh, Margaret (Philip) Isaguirre, Mary Ellen McHugh and Maureen McHugh; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Duane (Aurine) Barber; special friend, Pearl Gagnon; former wife, Faith Cherry. He was preceded in death by son, Douglas Barber; grandson, Lucas Kekel; brothers, Elwood, Donald and Eugene. Bob’s family would like to give a special thank you to his neighbors and the staff of Genesys Hospice Care Center for their compassionate care and support they provided.
