ORTIZ, Abel G., Jr. of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Hurley Medical Center with his family at his side. He was 60 years old. Abel G. Ortiz, Jr. was born on July 20, 1950 in Waterloo, Wisconsin to the late Abelardo, Sr. and Guadalupe (Gonzalez) Ortiz. Abel proudly served his country with the U.S. Army. He was employed with GM – Delphi, retiring in 2000 after 30 years of service. Abel loved to play shuffleboard and darts. He also enjoyed his friends at the Kelusha's. Above all, Abel loved and cherished his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are seven children: Cynthia (Tom) Ortiz, Bea Ortiz Aguilar, Veronica (Mando) Rodriguez, Abel III (Jessica) Ortiz, and Rick Adrian; mother of his children, Lydia Adrian Ortiz; many grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters: Julian Ortiz, Sr., Teresita (Ricardo, Sr.) Lumbreras, Jose Ortiz, Elivira (Tony) Rodriguez; and Pedro (Maria) Ortiz; his special nephews, Tony Ortiz and Roel Martinez; a special friend, Paulie G. Gomez; and many extended family and friends. Abel’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Tijerina Family for all of the help they provided throughout the years.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Abel A. Ortiz, Jr.

FUNERAL: Abel’s Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. Sixth Ave. Rev. Fr. Francis Voris, OFMCap will officiate. Rite of Committal and Military Honors will follow in East Lawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of V.F.W. Post 1859.

VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with Abel’s family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Abel will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
