MEDLYN (SMITH), Arlene E. – Of Swartz Creek, age 81, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at her residence.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Paul Ytterock officiating.
Cremation will take place following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (ACS) or American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF).
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Arlene was born in Flint, Michigan on March 7, 1935, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Helen Page, and was a resident of the Flint area all of her life.
She was a 1952 graduate of Flint Central High School.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Medlyn was employed by General Motors SPO for 20 years, retiring in January, 1993.
Arlene married Bob Medlyn on April 15, 1982 and they spent 34 years together. They shared many vacations with just the two of them or with family. A few of her favorite places were anywhere up north Michigan and Hilton Head, SC.
Arlene was a lover of life. She was an avid water skier in her younger days. She was always fair and a great role model. A few things she enjoyed were crafting, Michigan football games, decorating for holidays and their investment club.
What she loved most was time with family, especially her grandchildren, who called her “Mimmie”.
Our family motto “Love One Another” perpetuated throughout the entire family.
Surviving are husband, Bob Medlyn;
four children, Daniel R. and wife Linda Smith of Tennessee,
Laura E. and husband Greg Care` of Swartz Creek,
Timothy R. and wife Pamela Smith of Kenosha, WI,
James R. and wife Jessica Smith of Grand Blanc;
three step-children, Jill Medlyn of Lake Orion,
Kirk and wife Angie Medlyn of Orange, California,
Paul E. and wife Melinda Medlyn of Portland, Oregon;
7 grandchildren, Sara and Andrea Smith,
Emma and Megan Smith,
Charlie and Sam Smith,
Aaron, Candace and Andrew Medlyn and Rachel Medlyn;
3 great-grandchildren;
brother, Richard L. and wife Nina Page;
many wonderful nieces and nephews.
She was loved by many and will be missed forever.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Alice DeCourval and brother-in-law, James DeCourval.
