Harkins, Noreen E. – of Birch Run and Clio, age 70, died Friday, May 4, 2012 at Avalon Hospice in Flint. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 AM, Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Birch Run. Rev. Fr. John Sarge officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Clio. Friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Birch Run on Monday from 12-8 PM and Tuesday from 10 AM until time of mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart.
Noreen was born September 24, 1941 in Flint, Michigan to the late Joseph and Eleanor Walther. She was a lifelong resident of Clio. She graduated from Clio High School. Noreen married Rex Harkins on October 8, 1966. She was formerly employed as Dental Assistant with Dr. Bernstein in Clio and at Saints Charles & Helena Catholic Church as a RCIA director. Noreen was also a member and was currently employed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Birch Run as a Pastoral Assistant and was active with religious education for the past 15 years. She also took several religious education courses through Loyola University. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and just loved people.
Surviving are: Husband, Rex; Son, Alan (Jennifer) Harkins of Clio; 5 grandchildren: Joseph, Timothy, Matthew, Kyle and Katie; Brother, Donald (Bonnie) Walther; Sister, Carolyn Sproul. Several cousins, nieces and nephews. Noreen was also preceded in death by her daughter, Joanie in 1990.
