Rachel grew up nourished by the love and support of her parents, Richard and Kathy Darr, alongside her siblings, Deborah (Michael) Green, Richard Darr Jr., and Ryan (Racheal) Darr, all of whom survive her. Her beloved surviving grandmother, Jeramine Service, and her mother and father-in-law, Denny Wasson and Adele Hart, along with her dear husband Doug and their three children Aristotle, Seraphina, and Leonidas, had been the cornerstone of her life, a source of joy and pride. She carried fond memories of her grandfather Lloyd Service Jr., who predeceased her.
Rachel's academic journey began at Laingsburg High School, from which she graduated with a standout record that foretold her future successes. In 2005 she earned her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics - Minor in Health Promotion from Michigan State University, in 2006 Registered Dietitian (RD). The University of Buffalo was where she honed her intellect; and where her passion for sports and research flourished; in 2007 she earned her Masters of Science in Exercise Science, and her PhD in Exercise Science:Applied Physiology in 2014; she earned her Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) in 2019.
With a reputation for excellence, Rachel became a tenured professor at Saginaw Valley State University, where she was a beloved figure, known for her meticulousness and perfectionist tendencies. She was not just a faculty member but a guiding light, fervently engaged in her field and committed to broadening the horizons of her students and colleagues. Her love of reading, dedication to research, and involvement with sports made an indelible mark on the academic community.
Celebrated for her analytical mind, Rachel was also deeply creative and artistic, displaying an intelligent approach to all facets of life. Her favorite color was purple, which she often wore or incorporated into her surroundings, reflecting her vibrant and passionate spirit. Rachel's love for Paris and England signaled her appreciation for a world beyond her own, a signature trait that shone through in everything she did.
Her athletic achievements were nothing short of inspiring. Completing both a half Iron Man competition and a triathlon, Rachel demonstrated the importance of setting and achieving challenging goals—a principle she instilled in her students and children alike.

Her descriptive moniker as a 'firecracker' was a testament to the vigor and fervency she brought to her roles as an educator, mentor, and mother. It was no secret that Rachel could be short-fused, yet it was this fiery passion that often propelled her to strive for the best in herself and encourage others to do the same.
Rachel adored math for its clarity and precision, likely contributing to her analytical prowess. She was a person who analyzed the world around her with creativity and intelligence, and those who knew her were invariably enlightened by her insight and ingenuity.
