Edward "Ed" S. Sowa, of East Tawas, formerly a resident of Flint, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at the Iosco County Medical Care Facility in Tawas City with his family by his side, age 69 years. Ed was born on January 14, 1955 in Flint to the late Andrew and Genevieve Sowa. Ed worked for General Motors throughout his career as a Journeyman Machine Repairman.

In 2004, he was able to step away from his long career and begin to enjoy his well-deserved retirement years! Ed was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying and helping to create so many fun and crazy family memories and adventures while playing back yard games, camping and boating on the water. He loved watching Detroit sports on television, especially the Detroit Tigers! One of Ed's favorite sports was golfing, and throughout the years he became quite accomplished in the game. Ed and his brother-in-law, Paul, were partners in golf leagues for a long time, and the duo quickly became sharks on the golf course, repeatedly earning prize monies and championship league trophies throughout the years! Ed was a long time active member of the Tawas Eagles and the AM Vets in Mt. Dora, Florida. The countless hilarious stories and priceless memories will continue to be shared about Ed by his family, friends, and anyone who had the opportunity to know and love him! On May 13, 1994, Ed married his wife and best friend, Sheryl (nee Dankert) on Mackinaw Island. Together the couple have shared 30 beautiful years of marriage!

Ed is now survived by his beloved wife, Sheryl Sowa; 4 children, Randy Sowa, Jason Vottero, Marcy (Norm) Fowler, and Megan (Rick) Erickson; his adored grandchildren, little Randy, Morgan, Haley (Andy), Hannah (Joe), Dominic, and Abbie; his siblings, Andy (Jackie) Sowa, Debbie (Paul) Lamb, and Brad (Mona) Sowa; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Genevieve "Jenny" Sowa; brothers, Gary and Alan Sowa; 2 brothers-in-law, John Walsh and Gary Dankert; and 1 sister-in-law, Cathy Doughty.

Per Ed's wishes, cremation has taken place and his family is planning a celebration of his life for the spring of 2025 with a date, time, and location to be announced soon. Those wishing to leave a message of love and support for Ed's family may visit the family page at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com
