Mazza, Frank Albert of Flushing, age 88, passed away Friday, February 5, 2016, in Flint. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Gordon Reigle will officiate. Entombment will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Monday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church until the time of the Mass. A rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Flushing Christian Outreach Center, St. Robert Catholic Church, or Powers Catholic High School.
Frank was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, on April 2, 1927, the son of Vincenzo and Catherine (Marra) Mazza. He married Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Romano at St. John Catholic Church in Clarksburg, W.V. on July 23, 1955. They were married for 60 wonderful years. Frank served in US Army and attended Marshall University on a football scholarship majoring in P.E. He received his Masters in Education from West Virginia University and came to Flint in 1955 as a Teacher and Coach for the Flint Community School District until his retirement in 1989. Frank taught at numerous schools including Emerson, Southwestern and Northern and also worked in Pupil Personal. Frank enjoyed spending many winters in Florida until his health declined. He enjoyed watching all sports, his grandchildren's activities, was an avid "single handicapper "golfer, and enjoyed working around the house. After golfing for many years, he finally achieved 2 holes in one at the ages of 77 and 78. Frank always seemed to have a smile on his face even as his health declined.
Frank is survived by his wife, Libby; 2 sons, David (Maria), Michael (Christine); four grandchildren, Paige, Eric, Zackary, and Gabrielle; sisters, Rose, Mary, and Clara. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Salvatore, Samuel, John and Paul.
