KEELEY, Francis Guy - age 80, of Lennon, died October 6, 2014. Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, October 10 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held from 1PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Make-a-Wish Foundation or Toys for Tots.
Francis Guy Keeley was born in 1935 in Flint, MI. He preferred to go by his middle name Guy. He is survived by his wonderful wife Carole Ann Keeley, his sons James Keeley and Dennis Keeley, his daughter Karen Delehanty, and his daughter in law Katherine Keeley.
In addition Guy is survived by his grandchildren: Sarah Keeley, Alex Keeley, Michael Keeley, Theresa Keeley, John Keeley, Dan Delehanty, Justin Delehanty, Jeremiah Delehanty, and Amanda Delehanty, and their spouses Heather Keeley and Brandy Delehanty. His great grand children: Jacob Unger, Reese Parish, Aubrey Parish, Daniel Delehanty, Madison Delehanty, Christopher Delehanty, Joseph Delehanty, Justin Delehanty Jr., Bree Keeley, John Keeley II, Seth Keeley, and Conor Keeley.
Guy had nine siblings; three surviving. He was preceded in death by his parents Leon Keeley and Evelyn Keeley, and daughter Kathleen Keeley.
In addition Guy was the beloved adopted father and grandfather of many differing people, most notably the Fox family.
In his younger years Guy worked at AC as an electrician. Throughout his life he attended university, and held nine degrees from the following schools: MSU, UofM, Harvard, Mott Community College, and GMI.
Guy's professions included: electrician, EMT, marine biologist, teacher, archeologist, realtor, and botanist.
As an archeologist, marine biologist and teacher, Guy traversed the entire globe. He has visited every continent, including Antarctica and both the North and South poles. He taught English as a second language in Russia, China, India, South America, Israel and Africa. In addition he taught English as a second language within the USA to the various Native American nations, specifically the Navaho.
As a marine biologist, Guy was vital in horseshoe crab research, which led to breakthroughs in the struggle with Leukemia. This was more than a professional endeavor, as his daughter Kathleen, diagnosed with Leukemia, lived a mere six months.
Not only was Guy studious, but he also believed in the community. This unyielding passion for civil service led him to volunteer as a teacher for the Flint public school district for at risk children, a teacher at the Flint public library for computer literacy, serve on the Lennon town council, and FEMA. Notably, FEMA sent Guy to New Orleans during the Katrina crisis.
Over the years Guy developed a number of hobbies. He enjoyed bird watching, video editing, coin collecting, antique collecting, reading, bike riding, hiking, fly fishing, swimming, shark and whale watching, playing music (specifically the piano) and hunting. Guy could commonly be spotted at the YMCA on Pearson Rd, where he enjoyed an early morning workout around 0430.
Guy touched and had a positive impact on too many people to count, and not enough can be written about his accomplishments. He was often heard chuckling and seen smiling. He was quite humble and sociable, commonly saying "I certainly can appreciate that". Guy did appreciate everybody and everything, and he will be missed dearly.
