TURNER, Eugene - Age 97, of Flint Township, died Friday, August 14, 2020. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 21, 2020 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Pastor Esther Irish officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 1-4 and 6-9 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Shriner Hospitals for Children.
Eugene was born November 1, 1922 in Ned, KY, the son of John Bell and Nancy Ann (Whitaker) Turner. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army and was involved in the invasion of Normandy; he received a Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, 3 Bronze Stars, WWII Victory Medal and a Bronze Arrowhead. He married Florence Strong in 1947 in Flint and she preceded him in death February 13, 1989. He retired in 1977 from General Motors after 30 years of service. He was a member of Dimond United Methodist Church in Flint for over 50 years.
Surviving are: daughter, Phyllis Terry of Swartz Creek; sons, Clarence (Karen) Turner of Flushing and Curtis Turner of Flint; grandchildren, Mark (Audra) Turner, Jonathan Turner, Jason Turner, Shayna Terry, Amy (Curt) Alfaro, and Laura Turner; 10 great grandchildren "special thanks to his special great grandson's (Little Helper Buddy's), Kayen and Wakiza (aka Bozo and Duke); 3 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Beverly Turner; Curtis's significant other, Peggy Riddell; and 15 siblings. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
