KAUPPILA, Conrad – of Davison, age 83, passed away March 7, 2013 at his residence. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Randy Schultz officiating. Burial, with Military Honors will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 PM Monday and 10-11 AM Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the VFW – Davison Post # 4087.
Conrad was born in Painesdale, MI on February 3, 1930, son of the late Arnold and Amanda (Bollard) Kauppila. He married Jane Congdon on February 14, 1956. Conrad proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a life member of the VFW in Davison and The Friends of Finland. Conrad worked as a switchman and conductor with the CSX Railroad and was a member of the Railroad Workers Union. He loved fishing, hunting and camping.
Conrad is survived by his wife, Jane; children, Phyllis (Ray) Villarreal, Connie (John) Pavelock, Cheryl (Doug) DeNeff, Steven Kauppila and Stephanie (Randy) Miller; grandchildren, Amanda, Candy, Joy, John III, Olivia, Benjamin, Dakota and Samuel; great-grandchildren, Esperanza, Katherine, Chase and Lilly. siblings, Joyce Karinen and Ron Kauppila; He was preceded in death by sisters, Beverly Cerutti, Betty Smith and Joan Willimaa.
