SIMMS,LEWIS A.- Formerly from Clio/Fenton, 85 years old went to be with the Lord on January 30,2017.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Pastor Ron Meadows officiating.
Burial will be at Flint Memorial Park, next to his first wife.
Visitations will be at the funeral home, Thursday February 2,2017 from 2:00 - 8:00 pm.
Lewis was born to Fred and Freda Mae Simms on August 18, 1931, in Rainelle, West Virginia. In 1955 he moved to Michigan, and hired in at General Motors. He worked there exactly 30 years. In 1960 he married his first wife Rebecca "Becky". She passed away in 1979. Lewis was active in his church, serving as a deacon, a bus driver and enjoyed playing his guitar and harmonica at the same time. and singing on occasion. He enjoyed travelling and camping, especially back to West Virginia. In 1981 he married Pearl Wheatley. They enjoyed travelling to Tennessee and West Virginia, spending time with the family, including boating and fishing. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding his motorcycles. He loved God, his family, playing with the grandkids, fishing, watching the birds come to his birdhouses, and his power chair! Lewis loved to take his power chair outdoors and sit in the warm sunshine! His kind heart and his warm loving smile will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Pearl, loving daughters Donna (Ed) Chandler and Cheryl Horning; grandchildren Becca and Craig Horning; step-children Larry (Diane) Wheatley, Bonnie (Jim) Akers, Tammie (Joe) Mandeville; ten step-grandchildren and many step-great grandchildren; also survived by siblings Erma Simms, Gene Simms, and special brother Jessie Shelton Sims. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Freda Mae Simms; first wife Rebecca "Becky" Casey Simms, step-son Jimmy Wheatley, brothers Arby, Bobby, and Ernest Simms; and sister Jenny Rogers.
