RUTTER, George L. – of Flint, MI, age 78, passed away Monday, July 1, 2019. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 6434 Richfield Road, Flint, MI 48506; Pastor John Scally officiating. The family will receive visitors 10-11 AM Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Inurnment, with Military Honors, will be held 1:30 PM Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church Vision Expansion Fund, in George’s memory.
George was born in Flint, MI on June 9, 1941, son of the late Roy and Nellie (Evans) Rutter. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1959-1963. George married Marcia Lester on July 13, 1989. George retired from General Motors in November 2004 after 41 years of service. He was an accomplished drummer playing in the U.S. Marine Corps. Band and the Flint Concert Band. George also enjoyed riding bicycles and running. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. George was loved by all who knew him and he will be deeply missed.
George is survived by his loving wife, Marcia; step-son, Ryan Stevenson; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roy C. Rutter, Jr.; 2 sisters, Virginia Rutter and Shirley Dawson.
