BARRETT, Mary – Age 93, has joined “her Jim” on Thursday, June 21, 2012, after a general decline in her health over the past year.
She was born October 6, 1918, to John Fred and Anna Elizabeth Busch Baker in Silverwood, Michigan.
She married her sweetheart, Donald Will “Jim” Barrett on June 29, 1946 and they had 56 wonderful years together before he passed away on January 27, 2003. Mary worked at AC Spark Plug during the WWII and made ammunition for machine guns. After the war was over she made spark plugs, until 1951 when she stopped working outside the home to raise her children and care for her family. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Her family will miss her sweet loving smiles! Mary accepted Jesus Christ as her savior with her husband, Jim in February 1958, and spent many years doing what she could to serve her Lord Jesus at Calvary Bible Church, which is now joined with Mayfair Bible Church.
Left to mourn are her children, Marcia (CG) Standish of Flint, Donald G. (Lois) Barrett of Chapel Hill, Tennessee and Deborah Barrett-Summers of Flint;
grandchildren, CG Standish IV of West Palm Beach, Florida, Marie (Joe) Llopis of Davison, Christopher (Amie) Barrett of Jascksonville, North Carolina, Kevin (Dana) Barrett of Franklin, Tennessee, Nathaniel (Heaven) Standish of Flint, Alana and Alex Summers of Flint;
great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Halle Llopis of Davison, Ian and Hayden Standish of Clio, Wanda Standish of Flint, Derek and Brooke Barrett of Jacksonville.
She is also survived by her beloved sister, Martha Herwaldt and God-daughter, Janet Herwaldt of Flushing,
and the many nieces and nephews of her siblings and her husband’s siblings, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; brothers, Edwin (Lizzie) and Henry (Kate) Baker; sister, Hilda (John) Schultz and grandson, Benjamin Standish.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Saturday and 11a.m.-8p.m. Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2012 at the funeral home, Pastor Len Lason officiating.
Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Avalon Hospice.
