Arthur Lee “Art” Winkles of Grand Blanc formerly of Davison, age 89, died Sunday September 15, 2019 at his residence. Honoring his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday September 25, 2019 at Hansen Funeral Home Groves Chapel, Downtown Davison. Family will receive visitors from 1:00 pm Wednesday until time of services. Those desiring may make contributions in Art’s memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
Art was born in Flint Michigan on September 25, 1929 the son of the late Clifford and Evelyn (Azelton) Winkles. Art had resided in the Davison area for sixty years and the last several months in Grand Blanc, spending his winters in Florida during his retirement years. Art was joined in marriage to Shirley Stewart on June 19, 1954 in Chesterfield, South Carolina. Answering the call of his country Art served in the US Air Force in Europe and Africa during the Korean War. Art was an active member of Barbershop Harmony Society, and belonged and preformed with Motor City Barbershop Chorus, Flint Arrowhead Chorus, and the Goldie Oldies Lemon Bay Chord Company of Florida, his passion for Barbershop started at the age of fifteen when he started singing with his father. Besides his passion for music Art was an avid baseball and in his later year’s softball player a sport he truly loved. Art had been employed by General Motors Chevrolet Division, until his retirement in August of 1983.
Surviving is wife Shirley, son, Richard and wife Cathi Winkles, his grandchildren; Jason and wife Nicole Payton, Jeff Payton, and Jill (Josh Germaine) Payton. He also leaves great grandchildren Logan Payton, Kane Payton, and Lilly Germaine. Also surviving is sister; Delores Stebbins and a host of extended family. He is preceded in death by daughter Cynthia “Cindy” Payton in 2006 and brother Richard Winkles in 1956. Please share your condolences at www.hansenfuneralhome.net
