Betty was born on February 10, 1934 to Arthur and Cleopha Streng. She was the second of 7 children raised in a Catholic farm family by parents who instilled in her a deep faith in God, and sound practical attributes that she shared with others throughout her life time. She graduated from St. Michael High School in 1952 and was employed at Standard Electric in Saginaw until her marriage to Maurice Ruddy on October 12, 1957 at St Michael Church in Maple Grove. She then stepped into her role as wife and mother. They spent 59 years together until his death in 2016 ended a beautiful partnership. As one, they raised their six children while Maurice completed his education, taught school for a time, and then established their own school supply business. Betty was his business partner as well as being a beautiful home-maker. She was an excellent cook and baker, gardener, landscaper, and whatever it took to make their home comfortable and pleasant. She loved caring for her family and passing on to them the practical skills she possessed, as well as sharing with them her deep faith in the God who walked with her daily and gave her delight in her family, and strength in times of adversity.
She was a lifelong member of St. Michael Catholic Church where she was trained as an active participant in the Parish Befriender Program bringing comfort to many suffering people. She was mother not only to her own children, but to several children who lived with them through the Student Exchange Program. One student, Ratana, and in later years her two children Own and Earn, became life-long members of their extended family.
Betty is survived by her children, Nancy Ruddy, Annette (Joe) Simaz, Kevin Ruddy, Steve (Brenda) Ruddy, and Cathy Ruddy; her son-in-law, Kurt Linzey; her 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; her sisters Donna Black, Marie Crete, Marilyn (Ralph) Whitacre; her brother Larry (Kathy) Streng; her sisters-in-law Jane Streng, Catherine (William) Flynn, Betty and Patricia Ruddy; her brothers-in-law Rev. Father Paul Ruddy, Dan (Jane) Ruddy, and Arthur (Janet) Ruddy. She was predeceased by her husband Maurice, her daughter, Nora Linzey, grandson Craig Linzey, brothers Ronald and Michael Streng; brothers-in-law James Black, Larry Crete, Ralph, Robert and Raymond Ruddy; and sister-in-law Mary (Virgil) Verhaeghe.
