GEORGE, Joe D. - Of Swartz Creek, age 93, died Monday, October 17, 2016 at The Oaks at Woodfield.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Friday, October 21, 2016 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton,
Father Steve Anderson officiating.
Entombment at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors.
Those desiring may make contributions to Am Heart Association and Holy Redeemer Church.
Visitation 2-8pm Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed 7pm Thursday evening at the funeral home followed by a Knights of Columbus service. Visitation 10am Friday at church until the time of the Mass.
Joe was born in Highland Park, Michigan on March 6, 1923 and was the son of John and Tessie George. He served in the United States Navy from 1942-1946. Joe was a resident of the Flint area for over 50 years. He married Irene B. Stacklewitz on May 21, 1949. Joe was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and a former member of Society of Automotive Engineers, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. Mr. George began his career working for General Motors at its World Headquarters in Detroit. Later moving to Fisher Body 1 before retiring in 1983 after 30 1/2 years of service.
Surviving are wife, Irene;
5 children, David, Richard, Deborah Earl, Crystal and husband Jim Saule, Robert;
10 grandchildren, Kellie, Nicholas, Joey, Mathew, Jason, Alyssa, Heather, Haily, Elizabeth and Ashley;
5 great-grandchildren, Sophie, Brody, Maddex, Knox and Eva;
brother, Wallace;
sister, Louise George;
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Carmen and brother, Herbert.
