Passed away Monday, August 11, 2014 at Oliver Woods Retirement Village in Owosso. Age 80 years.
He was born on April 15, 1934 in New Lothrop to the late Bernard and Lucille (Streng) Birchmeier.
He married Mary Sumbera on June 7, 1958, she survives him.
Leo was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Maple Grove and was a lifelong farmer. He was a friendly man and well known in the community. He worked at Confer’s in New Lothrop for 27 years as a meat cutter and owned and operated the Brass Ball Restaurant & Motel in Chesaning for 20 years. He enjoyed his card club for 50 years and he especially enjoyed the time spent and the many special memories made with his loving family.
Besides Leo’s wife, Mary, those left to cherish his memory are his children; Deborah Marston (Jack Wenzlick) of Brant, Fred (LeAnn) Birchmeier of New Lothrop, Dian (Bill) Satkowiak of Hemlock, Lori (Jack) Rose of Hastings, Jerry (Barb) Birchmeier of Chesaning, Jack (Ronda) Birchmeier of New Lothrop, Connie (Scott) Ruddy of Chesaning, twenty two grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters; Eugene (Fran) Birchmeier, Allan (Roberta) Birchmeier, Grace Emmendorfer, Frank (Vivian) Birchmeier, Carolyn (Rich) Fox and Elaine Birchmeier. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Wil Marston, brother, Ron Birchmeier, sister, Rosalene (Bob) Krupp, sister-in-law, Dolores Birchmeier and brother-in-law, Harold Emmendorfer.
Funeral liturgy will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Maple Grove. Fr. Christopher Coman will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Whelpley-Martin Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 12:00-8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday after 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. There will also be a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.
The family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thanks to Oliver Woods and Memorial Healthcare Hospice for the wonderful care given to Leo.
