Beverley Ann Martin of Flushing age 87, died Saturday March 2, 2019 at Stonegate Health Campus, Lapeer. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday March 23, 2019 at St. Robert Catholic Church 310 N. Cherry St. Flushing. Fr Jonathan Perrotta, Celebrant.
Beverley was born in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan on December 28, 1931 the daughter of the late Albin & Louella (Fitzpatrick) Martin and had resided in the Flushing area since 1970. She graduated from Loretto High School and entered the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Convent in Wheaton Illinois in 1949. She also graduated with a Bachelors Degree from DePaul University. Beverley taught in Illinois and Arizona spending fifteen years with the Sisters and students. In 1964 Beverley returned to private life and joined her family in Flint Michigan. She continued her teaching career at Bendle Junior High School, Holy Rosary Schools and Goodrich Schools and during that time worked with the Flint Area Science Fair accompanying student to both local and international fairs. Beverly received her Real Estate and Brokers Licenses and was elected to the Flint Board of Realtors in the 1970’s. During this time she also managed the rental properties at Beaver Island for the Port St. James Property Owners Association. Beverly was elected to the Flushing City Council in 1986 and served two terms in office, during this time she became Flushing’s first woman mayor and served her community with pride.
Surviving are special nephews; Mike (Dana) Fitzgerald, Sean Hoydic, and great nephew Rutger Hoydic. She also leaves several extended family members and many friends. The family would like to thanks the staffs of Stonegate Health Campus and McLaren Hospice for their care and compassion for Beverley.
