HODGES, Mr. Michael Ferress - Age 57, passed Wednesday November 21, 2012 at his residence. Family hour: 1:30 p.m. Friday November 30, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 p.m. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 2:00 p.m. Friday. Mr. Hodges will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 noon - 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
Mr. Michael Ferress Hodges affectionately known by his family and friends as “Hot Leg Hodges” and “Big Mike” was born December 13, 1954 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Ernest and Earline Hodges. He was a lifelong resident of Flint and graduated from Flint Northern High School, “Class of 1972.” Michael attended Spirit of Israel Church and Its Army before his illness. He worked at Shell Gas Station and retired from Flint Truck and Bus, a division of General Motors and was a member of UAW Local 598. In 1967, he won four gold medals and a Merit Badge Cycling Metal in the Flint CANUSA Games. Michael loved guns and was a Pro Marksman in the marksmanship skill over 50 feet by the National Rifle Association in 1967. He placed first place in the Soap Box Derby, was a member of the Boy Scouts Troop #63 there he was a Raven Patrol Leader and received a Warrant Badge February 14, 1968. “Big Mike” enjoyed Jazz music, model airplanes, working on cars and drag racing. He also enjoyed bike racing in the CANUSA with Sue Novara, Art McHugh, John Schaefer and Ron Cech.
He leaves to cherish his memory: parents, Ernest and Earline Hodges of Swartz Creek, MI; 3 sisters, Rose and Deborah Hodges, both of Flint and Dianne Junior of Swartz Creek, MI; 2 brothers, Daniel Hodges of Flint and David Hodges of Oakland, CA; niece, Faith Junior of Swartz Creek, MI; godson, Timothy “TJ” Merriwether of Flint; aunts, Josephine Hodges of Tennessee, Fannie May of Flint and Dorothy Hodges of Grand Rapids, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins including special cousin, Earlene “Pill” Purches of Grand Blanc, MI; a host of other relatives and friends including special friend, Eugene “Gene-O” Carrigan.
Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alford and Nellie May, Elizabeth Washington-Hodges and Ernest Hodges, Sr.
The family would like to express special thanks to the many caregivers who helped throughout the years, Eugene and Jowanne Carrigan, Earlene Turner, Timothy Merriwether, Rose Hodges, Dianne Junior, Adrian Junior and all the others, too many to name “you know who you are”.
