Beth Alexis Wilson, 71, passed on Monday, May 27, 2024. She fought fearlessly against ovarian cancer for seven years before ending her treatment and passing peacefully in her home with family by her side.
Beth lived in Grand Blanc, Michigan where she attended Grand Blanc High School. She then attended Central Michigan University where she obtained her undergraduate and master’s degree in child and adolescent psychology.
She worked in Flint, Michigan at Mott Childrens Health Center until moving to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina in 1988. In Hilton Head, she worked for the South Carolina Department of Mental Health at the Hilton Head Clinic of Coastal Empire Community Mental Health Center as the Coordinator of Children, Adolescent and Family Services. She focused her career on working with the youth and mentoring others as part of her leadership role. In 1978, Beth met her best friend for life, Natalie A. Nelson. They later married and enjoyed experiencing life together. Beth’s true passion was golf, in which she excelled, and is evidenced by her numerous awards. After she retired in 2015, if not golfing, Beth could be found floating in her pool, gardening or traveling with Natalie.
Beth is preceded in death by her brother, Douglas Gardiner Wilson, MD., parents John Rigby Wilson Jr. and MaryEllen Louise (McBee) Wilson.
She will be remembered and cherished by her spouse Natalie A. Nelson, several in-laws, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, best friend, Frances McFaddin (Scott) Moody, grandfriends Eadon Moody (Troy) Clifford and Robert McFaddin Moody, great-grandfriend, Jaxson Holman Clifford and many special friends.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hilton Head Humane Association, Amazing Grace Sulak Scholarship Fund c/o Community Foundation of the Lowcountry, or a charity of your choice.
A service of memory will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at The Island Funeral Home, 4 Cardinal Road, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926. A gathering of family and friends will immediately follow.
