Verlene Hoskey, age 82, of Grand Blanc, formally of Flushing, passed away September 5, 2024, with her children by her side at Anchored Heart Senior Living Center.
Verlene was born on June 23, 1942, in Flint, MI, to Vernon and Vera (Trivett) Rogers. She graduated from Flushing High School in 1960. She married Anthony (Tony) Hoskey in 1967 and they created a loving, close-knit family, raising three kind and caring children: David (Suzanne) Brooks, Patty Banasiak, and Tonya (Michael) Wyczalek.
Verlene and Tony enjoyed traveling, road trips and spending winters in Yuma, AZ. They were always up for an adventure, having lots of fun and laughs along the way. Verlene enjoyed many crafts, especially sewing and beading. There wasn’t a project that she couldn’t tackle!
While she was very talented, her pride and joy were her grandchildren: Lindsay Brooks, Kevin (Ericka) Brooks, Trevor (Sally) Banasiak, Braden Banasiak, Erik Wyczalek and Brooklyn Wyczalek. She was great-grandmother to Bryar and Brynlee Brooks and Adaline and Ella Brooks. She was the best Nana ever, and they always wanted all her attention and affection and to each be her #1!
There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t try or do for her grandchildren, from making Halloween costumes to supporting every single sport they all played (and it was a lot!). She was a super fun and much-loved Nana. Verlene is also survived by her sister Vernell O’Hara (Chuck Percy), and brother Verlon Rogers (Judy), who will miss her dearly.
With a smile that could light up a room, her children, grandchildren and siblings will cherish Verlene’s memory.
In honor of her wishes, there will be no funeral services, but her children will have a memorial service at a later date to share stories and laughs and enjoy one last margarita toast to Verlene.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice in Verlene’s name.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Anchored Heart and Swan Hospice for their outstanding and loving care of our precious mom and Nana.
Verlene was a joy to us, and she made our lives better. The words of her of her favorite song say it best,” You are my sunshine, my only sunshine …”
